ARLINGTON, WA— The Snohomish County Steelheads topped the Everett Community College Trojans 2-0 on Saturday May 12, 2018 on a gorgeous sunny day at Lakewood High School in Arlington. Devin Shull scored a goal in each half to pace the Fish. 143 specators watched the match at Dick Cardinal Stadium. The victory raised SnoCo FC’s overall record this season to 5-2-2. The club now takes a break between matches. Stay tuned for a June event you will want to attend!
The clubs battled it out in a match that was ‘friendly’ but played with desire and pace. Steelheads goalkeeper trialist Regis Viteri made a few important grabs along the way and midfielder Shull raised his goals total in 2018 to five to secure the win. Kevin Baron of the Steelheads was named “Man of the Match” for his hustle, effort and end-to-end play.
Head Coach Dagi Kesim was happy with the effort. The Steelheads bounced back from a 3-0 loss to the EPLWA Seattle Stars with 4-0 and 2-0 wins this week. Here’s how Kesim saw the two Shull goals.
Minute 36: “After several great passes, the ball went to Ibrahim Ahmed wide. He looked up, saw a back post run, and crossed a perfect ball and Devin on the back post just tapped it in.”
Minute 61: “The second goal Devin took the ball, beat a couple players in midfield…then took a rocket shot from 30 yards out (there was a little deflection.) A beautiful goal to the left corner.”
Snohomish County used many players in new positions in the match. Kesim was trying to see what else might work with the talent he’s got. Shull has been a force in the midfield this season, often overwhelming opposing defenses with his 6’7 height and his ability to control the ball. Often seen as a defender, Kesim has tried him as a holding midfielder to great effect. The Steelheads need Shull’s firepower. They have yet to see a true forward score a goal this year. Meanwhile the midfield has stepped up to knock enough of them in to win five matches.
