Everett’s Samuel Agyei to join Steelheads attack in 2019

SMOKEY POINT, WA— The Snohomish County FC Steelheads are excited to announce that another elite player from local waters will be representing the club in the Liga Premier del Oeste de Washington in 2019. Cascade High School alum, Crossfire Academy player and current Seattle Pacific University Falcons forward Samuel Agyei (pronounced uh-JAY) will go on the attack for goals this spring and summer for SnoCo FC.

SnoCo FC Head Coach Daghan "Dagi" Kesim is excited to get to work with Agyei. “Samuel is an outstanding athlete, and a great soccer talent. I do believe I can make him even better to go further in his career.” Samuel got noticed first in his one year playing for the Cascade High School Bruins. He was described back then as “great with the ball and willing to take on four guys — and he’s one of those guys who beats the fourth guy.”

Agyei is known in and beyond Snohomish soccer circles, but he got his start here. “I played for Tynecastle under David Hoggan for the majority of my career,” Samuel says. “I played one year of high school (2013-14) my sophomore year at Cascade. Then injuries slowed his rise. “A series of injuries kept me from playing more high school or club. When I could play again I was a senior.”

Samuel got back into soccer just in time to be leaving high school and looking for a college. “So coming back from injury with no real knowledge of how the recruiting process worked I knew I had to get to an academy if I wanted to play in college. I could shoot and move decently (coming back from the injuries) so I talked to some coaches who got me to try out with Crossfire. I had no doubt I would make it, it was just a matter of whether my knee would give me problems or not.”

The step up to a new level of play was an eye opener. “I made it on the team, (but) things were different, everything was quicker, more technical. I liked it. I managed to get a starting spot. I was playing really well and the team went on a 12-game unbeaten streak.”

Thoughts of college were always present. “It was very late to be talking to coaches because I was a senior, hoping to get to a college next year when all the recruiting for the year was mostly done,” he says. “I talked to a couple of coaches but those didn’t work out and the ones that contacted me I didn’t give too much thought. SPU Head Coach Mark Collings told me about Seattle Pacific. I visited the campus and liked it, so I went there.”

It’s no light academic load for the soccer player. He is majoring in Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Business Administration.

Samuel is ready to play back home in Snohomish County this year with the Steelheads as they embark on their first season in regional elite adult men’s play. Last year the SnoCo FC defense established a solid core that was tough to beat. Up front the goals were tough to come by. Agyei’s addition could change all that. “When it comes to the WWPL I’m looking forward to playing with the guys, getting results, and scoring goals!”
