Who will stick at Steelheads FC?

SMOKEY POINT, WA— The Snohomish County FC Steelheads held their open tryouts on Sunday March 10 at Dick Cardinal Stadium in Smokey Point. 64 players tried out ( a new club record) and 40 were asked to move on to continue into training with the club. Some of those guys are returning players from 2018 but a large number are brand new players trying to stick with the club and play in the Western Washington Premier League (WWPL).

Let’s take a closer look at a few of the new faces trying to make it on the SnoCo FC roster. Keep in mind that a few other previous players couldn’t make it to open tryouts but are in the mix and several college players will join the club when school is out.

sticktry-18 — Karim Hanafy played for the Shoreline CC Dolphins a few years back. More recently he has featured on trophy-winning sides in Everett’s Olympic Soccer League.

Defender Karim Hanafy (Shorecrest High School, Shoreline CC) has built himself into quite the physical presence on the pitch. His upper body strength might be the first thing people notice, but when you see him play you’ll also see good speed and solid positioning and marking.

Defender Cade Cooke (Kamiak High School, Everett CC) is a versatile player that can also play the middle. He’s got a weapon with his long throw-ins and a soccer resume that includes being named All State second team in 2018. Cooke played in 20 matches for the Everett Trojans in 2018, starting 17 of them.

Attacking midfielder Edwing Galmichi (Edmonds-Woodway High School, Atletico Acayucan) hails from Mexico originally but he came to the Northwest and helped Edmonds-Woodway to make a state run back in 2016. He returned to Mexico and played with a 3rd division side in 2016-17 where he featured at right wing. His control and ease on the ball make him a smooth flowing presence on the pitch.

Agustin Domingo (Mariner High School, Greater Seattle Surf, Washington Youth Soccer EPD Player Pool) is a player with nice attacking skills that usually find him playing up front whether it be at forward or attacking mid. He’s got a lengthy soccer career already, including playing adult soccer in the Olympic Soccer League. He was named All-Wesco for his high school Marauders.
