EVERETT, WA— The Everett College Trojans are playing spring matches to improve their chances when the NWAC season starts in late August. Along the way the school scheduled a match with the Snohomish County Steelheads. The announcement of the game was met with plenty of chatter and excitement – and for good reason. Some of the Trojans are Steelheads, and some of the Steelheads are former Trojans. Not only that, but some of the other Steelheads are current or former Edmonds College Tritons – always rivals of Everett.
Trojans Head Coach Erik Cruz says, “This is the true first spring season for EvCC men’s soccer and we are having a lot of success. We lost to Northwest U Eagles 2-1 in a game where it could have gone either way. We then played Central Washington University’s Men’s Club Team and tied 3-3, where they had to score to catch us at the end of the match.”
“We would love all the Steelheads to be in Orange on Saturday,” says SnoCo FC General Manager David Falk. “But we know this match is special and will be extra fun because some of the guys will now be playing against mates they have been practicing with and competing alongside for weeks.” So Orange is becoming Red. For some guys.

Cruz gives us an example of the roster musical chairs coming on Saturday. “We have three players currently on the Steelheads, Drexel Cardona (GK), Carlos Rodriguez (D) and Logen Flem (D). Drexel will be playing for us while Carlos and Logen will play for the Steelheads as they can’t play with us until fall. The Steelheads do have a lot of Everett alumni like Sergio Barrera (GK) , Nate Thompson (M), Fabian Panduro (M), and Gunnar Stohl (D) (among others.)”
Steelheads forward Andrew Escalante is a former Trojan who hopes to be healed enough from a deep hip bruise to go against his old school on Saturday as well. He missed last week’s SnoCo FC 3-0 loss to the Seattle Stars of the EPLWA.
So why schedule a match against SnoCo FC? “I want to give my guys some exposure to levels beyond community college and see how we match up against the higher levels,” says Cruz.
