Landscaper Cup Win by Players Rakes In $1,050 for Steelheads

SNOHOMISH, WA—Players from the Snohomish County FC Steelheads entered the 2022 Landscaper Cup on Saturday March 5 at the Snohomish Sports Dome with a single goal in mind: win the $1,000 first prize and donate it to Snohomish County FC. A few hours later the guys were posing with a trophy and Monarch Landscaping was presenting the group with a debit Visa card. Along the way Glenn Paden and Dorian Lair also won $25 each for the team. The eventual benefit for the Fish was $1,050.

Club Community

“It was awesome to see some of our players decide to compete in this indoor tournament with the sole purposes of having fun and trying to win some cash to support the Steelheads,” says player and club General Manager Dorian Lair. “A big plus for us is that we got to meet the people at Monarch Landscaping. Great folks and we hope to do more with them in the future.”

Raking It In

Monarch Landscaping (Northwest Landscape Services in Woodinville and Signature Landscape Services in Woodinville) sponsored the tournament as a recruiting tool for new employees. They are currently hiring in all areas and looking to build their worker base for the summer. They are offering a $1,000 hiring bonus as well.

Staying Sharp

“We played some really good defense and worked together,” says Andrew Escalante, an original co-founder of the Steelheads. “We got four goals from Tyler Sharp which was also a big factor.” Other scorers on the day were Jacen Stein (2), Adan Hernandez (2), Andrew Escalante, Dorian Lair, Glenn Paden and Garret Robinson.

Run to the Trophy

Matches consisted of two 13-minute halves. The Orange team started the day with a 5-1 win then edged opponents 3-2 and 2-1 to claim a spot in the championship round. In the Final they scored a 2-1 win over El Paraiso (featuring some players from Snohomish High School and also a couple of guys from Bellingham United) to claim the cup and prize.

“It’s great to see our guys want to give back to the club,” says SnoCo FC President David Falk. “I’m sure they had a lot of fun and we certainly appreciate the financial reward they earned and are sending our way.”

Get Better Soon Danny Amador

The players were also thinking about Danny Amador. He broke his wrist early in the tournament. “We are hearing that Danny is OK, but it is a bummer that he got injured, of course. Hopefully he can continue playing. He’s an important part of what we hope to accomplish outdoors this year,” Falk says.
