SNOHOMISH, WA— The Indoor Steelheads did their best to make what they could out of the cancelled Western Indoor Soccer League (WISL) season. Head Coach Jim Kessler and the guys stepped up to the challenge of playing national title contenders Bellingham United twice, including a home match at the Snohomish Sports Dome on March 20. The archive of the live match stream can be seen on the SnoCo FC Facebook Page.
The match kicked off with a guitar rendition of the National Anthem (see video above). Even though eventually the Fish fell 7-1 to the Hammers it was still a valuable run-through for the Steelheads and the Dome to host an indoor match. The crowd was limited by Covid-19 restrictions but it was still lively. Halftime prizes were given away. It was a peek into the future for when the WISL can have a full season.
One fun moment for the club was seeing a father and son duo play in the match at the same time. Paul Joehnk (41) and son Lucas Joehnk (16) made Steelhead and WISL history by hitting the pitch together.

Before the match the Steelheads also met with shirt sponsors Trails End Tap House owner Chris Shirley to thank him for the support of the new WISL team. The players on hand also posed for photos in a gallery yo can view here.

It’s something to build on for the Fall. Already the indoor team’s presence is being felt outdoors where a handful of players recruited indoors are joining the defending WWPL Champs and strengthening that team’s efforts to repeat.
