SMOKEY POINT, WA— Snohomish County FC Steelheads goalkeeper Luke Brezak (Camano Island, Overlake High School) recently led his Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) Engineers to the NCAA 3 Elite Eight. It was a historic new high for the school’s program. Along the way Luke added more honors to his college career.
A big highlight for Brezak came when RPI advanced in a penalty shootout on November 17. The thrills continued with an overtime win to make the elite eight. The school-record run ended against the nation’s top team a short step from the final four.
Luke joined the Steelheads in 2019 and was the club’s starter for much of the first half of the WWPL season. He later shared time and gave way to NPSL-experienced stopper Dorian Lair. Brezak was named ‘Honorable Mention Best Goalkeeper’ behind Lair at the Steelheads year-end awards party.
Luke is no stranger to high-level success. He’s got a Steelheads 2019 WWPL Championship medal waiting for him when he gets back from school, and of course while in high school he was the goalkeeper for Overlake as the Owls won two state titles.
