New faces emerge from Steelhead tryouts

2019-wwpl-champions-starSMOKEY POINT, WA— The Snohomish County FC Steelheads are in a holding pattern just like our community and the larger world of soccer. While we support each other from proper social distance, training has become a personal objective rather than a team ritual. Covid 19 has paused our 2020 season, but we continue to highlight our 2020 roster of players.

While we are currently not training as a group, before the shutdown Steelheads President of Soccer and Head Coach Dagi Kesim did invite a handful of players from open tryouts to continue to work out with the club. The events of this year also mean that the Steelheads will be seeing trial players on an individual basis. Contact us for details at snocofc@gmail.com.

Sean Wagner returns to SnoCo FC in 2020.

The recent (March 7-8 – Gallery Here) open tryouts saw some quality players show up alongside returning guys. One of the returners was Sean Wagner, who played for the Fish back in 2018. Wagner (Marysville Pilchuck HS, Skagit Valley CC) is an experienced midfielder / defender.

Five brand new faces emerged at tryouts: Daniel Amador, Carlos DaCunha, Daniel Kamdem, Gerardo Lopez and Hernan Valdez.

Daniel Amador (Marysville Pilchuck HS, Everett CC Trojans) is a midfielder with local honors who started 15 matches for Everett CC as a freshman in 2019. Carlos DaCunha (Bothell HS, Everett CC Trojans) played forward for the Trojans a few years ago (2016-17). Daniel Kamdem (Eastern View HS of  Alexandria, Virginia, North Carolina Wesleyan College) was a standout at tryouts on defense. Gerardo Lopez (Cascade HS, Gala FC, Everett CC) is a midfielder / forward who started 20 matches for EvCC in 2019. Hernan Valdez (Mount Vernon HS, Skagit Valley CC) is an athletic addition who has played in local leagues with experience as a midfielder and defender.

Here’s what Dagi Kesim had to say about the new guys and Wagner’s return. “I am very excited about all of the talent that is coming in now,” the Head Coach reveals. “I already know Gerardo (Lopez) from the Gala FC program. He trained with me for four years. He’s a great player and a hard worker. I am excited also about Daniel (Kamdem) in the back. He’s solid in the air and fits in perfectly with that we are trying to do.” Kesim welcomes Sean Wagner back as well. “Sean was an outstanding player back when we were first starting to build up the program. It was sad to lose him (in 2019) but he was coming to the matches sometimes so I knew his heart was still in it, so I am glad he’s back.”

In regards to other new guys, Kesim says, “Carlos (DaCunha) is a Brazilian newcomer with offensive talent working on getting into match shape. Daniel Amador is a talented player. I just need to see more of him (to know how he might fit in.) He’s a playmaker for sure, he just needs more time to get used to our system. Hernan (Valdez) is a very fit athlete who also needs to learn our system. They are all great additions to our program.”
