SMOKEY POINT, WA— The Snohomish County FC Steelheads scored twice in the second half on Sunday at Dick Cardinal Stadium in Smokey Point and ended up battling to a 2-2 draw with the Goats of Kirkland FC.
The Fish took to the shade of the main stand at halftime to listen to the advice of Head Coach Dagi Kesim. Kirkland played well from the beginning and SnoCo FC was having a hard time finding any rhythm. The Goats took a 1-0 lead when Leon Bormann assisted on a goal from Obi Esonu about midway through the first half.
The talk and the time in the shade seemed to jump start the Steelheads efforts. They were more fluid in the second half and began creating chances. Devin Sutomo volleyed home a bending shot that was called back for an accidental hand touch on the set up. While the goal was waived off, it did signal to the Fish that an equalizer might come.
Randy Galvan continued to make dangerous runs into the Kirkland box. He drew his second penalty kick call on the young season and Rio Alcorta converted at 65 minutes to level the match 1-1. The Fish were lifted and spent the following minutes trying to find another.
Carlos Rodriguez gave SnoCo FC a 2-1 lead with his fourth goal of the year in the 74th minute. He timed a deflection and perfectly placed a turf-hugger off the post and into the net.
Kirkland kept their heads up and the match was back and forth. The Goats got even when they drew a penalty kick of their own in the 80th minute. Kyle Han stepped to the mark and converted for the visitors. The match ended 2-2 on a gorgeous sunny afternoon. In two all-time meetings, the Fish and Goats have tied both times. The clubs meet again on August 14 in Kirkland.
Snohomish County returns to Dick Cardinal Stadium on Sunday April 25 at 3 PM for another WWPL match against Federal Way FC.
