Silvers make debut in friendly at Kirkland FC

The Silvers played their first-ever match on Saturday May 15 against Kirkland FC.

BELLEVUE, WA—The Snohomish County Football Club Silvers made their debut on the soccer pitch on a sunny Saturday May 15, 2021 at Robinswood Park in Bellevue against Kirkland FC. The new women’s team had some fine moments in a close first half then saw the college-influenced roster (Northwest University) of Kirkland FC pull away in the second for a 5-0 final score.

It was a quickly scheduled friendly for the Fish. Details of the match coming up until the day of the game. Dagi Kesim stood in as Head Coach and the Silvers brought 14 players to the away contest. It’s a small but important step as the club continues to develop a women’s outdoor team. Matches ae underway!

Kylee Billings, Maggie Tonkin and Kiana Jacobson are all smiles after getting time on the pitch with the Silvers.

“The Silvers played very well in the first half. We created 5 or six solid chances at goal,” Kesim says. “Then there was a debatable penalty kick call that gave Kirkland the lead.” It was 1-0 at the break and the Fish were hanging with the home side. SnoCo FC had 2 goals called back for offsides.

“We ran out of gas in the second half,” Kesim explains. “Our training and fitness are something we will continue to work on.” But Dagi also feels boosted by the overall performance, seeing a lot of talent to work with.

M’ily Reiter-Morton played for Seattle University, is the head coach of the Woodinville High School girls soccer team, and is co-owner / operator of the Snohomish Sports Dome. Kesim was impressed with her performance against Kirkland. “The Silvers really know how to pass the ball well,” he says. “And M’ily showed she’s good enough to play with the Steelheads.”
