SNOHOMISH, WA—The Snohomish County FC Steelheads are excited to announce their intention to join the Cascadia Premier League as a founding member for the 2022 outdoor elite adult soccer season.
“The Steelheads have had many internal and external discussions with staff, players, clubs and leagues over the past few months,” says Club President David Falk. “From our experiences in those interactions and the details we have gleaned, we feel the CPL offers the best combination of local leadership and national connections for SnoCo FC.”
The Cascadia Premier League was recently announced as an evolution of the Western Washington Premier League (WWPL), which the Fish have competed in for two seasons. The CPL will associate with the National Independent Soccer Association (NISA) in efforts to build a nationwide community of leagues and clubs favoring player development and eventual club promotion and relegation.
“The longterm vision of NISA is a nice addition to what the CPL can offer the Steelheads,” says General Manager Dorian Lair. “But I would say for us the difference between leagues we considered was the local control, and personally knowing the people we are working with in the CPL. We are excited to be leaders on and off the pitch in the Cascadia Premier League.”
SnoCo FC Technical Director of Soccer Dagi Kesim feels good about the choice to go into the CPL in 2022. “The soccer is going to be very good,” Kesim says, “…and our players will be pushed to new limits in the Cascadia Premier League. We will be facing old rivals under new circumstances, adding a twist to our matches. I am excited to help open new doors for our players.”
Cascadia Premier League Technical Director Mitch James is looking forward to having SnoCo FC continue on. “We are extremely excited to hear that the Steelheads will be returning (from the WWPL) for the 2022 season. Not only do the Steelheads bring quality soccer on the field, but they help raise our league standards off the field also. We have huge aspirations for this league and we want the best people involved to mirror those aspirations.”
The commitment to the Cascadia Premier League allows the Steelheads to focus on closing out their 2021 WWPL season where the Fish are in a battle to finish as high as second place. The club is already beginning to prepare for the upcoming Western Indoor Soccer League (WISL) season which is planning for a late October kick off.
