SNOHOMISH, WA—The roster for the 2019-20 Snohomish Skyhawks Western Indoor Soccer League (WISL) squad has some names that Snohomish County Steelheads followers will recognize. Ten guys who were part of winning the WWPL last summer are helping raise the performances of the Skyhawks this winter. Snohomish are currently third in the WISL standings.

The Skyhawks’ form against the current WISL champions (Tacoma Stars Reserves, TSR) and the three-time defending champions (Bellingham United, BUFC) have improved dramatically. Last season the Skyhawks were outscored over two games (each) by TSR and BUFC 34-11 finishing 0-4 against the two best teams in the league. So far this season the Skyhawks have played 3 of those games with the 4th coming at the end of the season against Bellingham. The Skyhawks have scored 13 and given up 17 with an 0-1-2 record against TSR and BUFC.
Last weekend (January 11) the Skyhawks ended Tacoma’s 17 game winning streak with a 5-5 draw. The Skyhawks were just coming off a tough road loss at BUFC 5-6 and they battled the Stars Reserves in a thriller which saw John Troka score with 33 seconds left to earn the tie.

Indoor and outdoor soccer are two different types of game but something the Steelhead players have brought to the Skyhawks is their battling spirit and a certain mental toughness. The mix of talent might go the other direction too. It’s possible a new 2020 Steelhead or two could come from the current Skyhawks roster.
The Skyhawks are back in action at home January 25th at 7 PM against the Oly-Pen Force at the Snohomish Soccer Dome in Snohomish. See Skyhawks schedule and results here.
