SNOHOMISH COUNTY, WA— The Snohomish County Steelheads bounced back from a sub-par performance on Sunday with two scrimmage wins on Tuesday night at Tambark Park in Mill Creek. SnoCo FC matched up a ‘first squad’ and a ‘reserve squad’ against the Gala FC U19’s and U17’s. In the end the Steelheads took 5-0 and 1-0 scores.
The first squad rolled with 2 goals each from Devin Shull and Sean Wagner. Jason Fairhurst added a 5th, his first with the club. In the reserves match Fabian Panduro got the only goal but it was enough.
Tuesday night was a chance to address what went wrong on Sunday in a 4-0 loss to Tacoma Narrows FC. “We saw that we didn’t play our disciplined team defense so we wanted to focus on that and also focus on possessing the ball,” says Steelheads Head Coach Dagi Kesim. “We also wanted to give more game time to new players like Jason (Fairhurst) and Victor (Villasenor) with the team. Both great new additions. We also tried Edgar (Navarro) in defense to work on possession out of the back and it went well. I was happy to see after the loss, we stuck together as a team, came back and played better soccer. Sunday was a wake up call and Tuesday we looked awake.”
The Steelheads scrimmages with Gala FC are meant to offer a boost to both programs. Kesim is the Director at the youth club. “The U19 Gala FC guys are not only the future of the program but also they are fans of the Steelheads. We already have several former Gala players in the program that have been greatly helping. Fabian, Nate (Thompson), Carlos (Rodriguez). Sergio (Barrera), Drexel (Cardona), Jesus (Alvarado.) We are also closely working with other local clubs and they are on board for the future.”
