Steelheads Find Success in Friendly Topping Cultures United 9-2

Snohomish, WA

The Steelheads host Cultures United in their 2nd annual Breast Cancer Awareness Match, topping Cultures 9-2 and raising nearly $500 to donate to local community members impacted by breast cancer.

The Fish had a little bit more to play for the night of the 15th. “My mom had stage 3 cancer back in 2015. It was not breast cancer, but it felt fitting to play for her and all that she has overcome,” said Midfielder Morgan West.

The Steelheads have two new coaches this year. Head coach Dana Garner, and Player/Assistant Coach Andrew Escalante. “Cultures United is a team looking to join the WISL in the future… It was a great opportunity to play them. They had very skillful players… Looking forward to them joining us and adding competition to the league,” said Escalante.

The first half of the match saw 6 goals from the Steelheads with many new faces getting on the scoring sheet. “We are looking organized and showing the fans we will have a plan of attack and defense. Just need the time to make it even better,” said Director of Soccer Dagi Kesim. Although there were a lot of positive notes, The Fish were not perfect on the night. The Second half saw 3 more goals for The Steelheads, and 2 for Cultures United late in the game.

Nevertheless, when talking to Man of the Match, Forward Glenn Paden, “The team played well and it was fun to get a taste of the game environment.

Paden held two goals and two assists for the Steelheads. “It was great to see us execute some of the things we’ve been working on in practice. The team is coming together and we’re getting really excited to compete this year.”
