BREMERTON, WA—The Snohomish County FC Steelheads Men were eliminated from the WISL playoff race on Saturday Night January 29 after a 12-8 loss to the Oly-Pen Force at the Oly-Pen Sports Center in Bremerton.
The loss combined with the Portland Blacktails 9-4 home win over Oly Town FC sends Portland into the Western Indoor Soccer League playoffs in the 4th spot in the table. The Fish finish their first year in the WISL in 5th place with a 3-7-0 record.
FINAL STATS: Escalante leads Fish with 11 goals
Andrew Escalante rallied Snohomish several times, first scoring a goal in the second quarter to level the match at 2-2, then scoring two more back-to-back in the third quarter to bring SnoCo FC back to within 6-5. But that is as close as the Steelheads could get.
It was 1-0 Snohomish after one quarter thanks to a top shelf strike from Tye Hastings. The Force took 2-1 and 3-2 leads in the second quarter before the Fish got even 3-3 at the break.
The third quarter ended 7-5 in favor of the Force, and they continued to roll in the last period, extending to an eventual 9-5 lead before Snohomish could answer back.
The other 5 Snohomish County goals came from Tye Hastings (2), Cesar Zavalza, Garrett Robinson and Tyler Sharp. See a few highlights below.
Indoor soccer continues for Snohomish County FC as the Steelheads Women make their pre-season debut on Sunday February 6 at 3 PM at the Snohomish Sports Dome against the Whatcom Waves.
The Steelheads Men will switch attention to outdoor soccer and will soon announce details of their Cascadia Premier League season open tryouts.
