Steelheads hatch new men’s indoor soccer team on open tryout weekend
SNOHOMISH, WA—Snohomish County Football Club hatched a new team the weekend of October 10-11 as the Western Indoor Soccer League (WISL) Steelheads held their first-ever open tryouts at the Snohomish Sports Dome.
Head Coach Jim Kessler was joined by his new staff (to be officially announced later) to observe the talent and direct the tryouts in two hour sessions held over two days. Nearly 40 players battled to be seen and get a foot in the door for a spot on SnoCo FC’s first-ever elite men’s indoor soccer team.
It was a busy week for the new team even before open tryouts. On Thursday the WISL held a phone conference discussing the plans for a Covid-19 altered 2020-21 season. There are hopes of beginning play in January. Another conference will be held before Thanksgiving.
The league news means the Steelheads will continue to meet one day a week in organized ‘drop-in’ sessions until eventually practicing formally twice a week when league season training begins.
The Steelheads plan to move forward with around 22 players from the tryouts. Those guys will continue to train and have the opportunity to distinguish themselves for a WISL roster down the line.
