One of the benefits of having a club like the Steelheads in Snohomish County is providing opportunities for local players to test themselves against top opposition. So when SnoCo FC were contacted by the Timbers U23’s in regards to playing a friendly, the response came quickly. “We were surprised but pleased to get an invite to come down to play the Timbers U23’s,” says Steelheads General Manager David Falk. “I got together with our Head Coach Dagi Kesim and we had a short chat about it. Certainly it would be a challenge on and off the pitch, but were we up to giving it a try? We both knew we couldn’t pass on the chance to give our guys this opportunity.”

So now the Steelheads (2-0-3), who have only played two league matches in their history, will travel to play a club connected to the MLS Portland Timbers.
The Steelheads were founded so that players like Rio Alcorta could keep competing at a high level after college. The PLU grad gets a chance to measure himself against the Timbers U23 this Saturday as SnoCo FC travels to Salem. (Glen Moffitt photo)
