SMOKEY POINT, WA— The Snohomish County FC Steelheads used two second half goals to rally past visiting Federal Way FC 2-1 in a WWPL match played Saturday May 18 at Lakewood High School in Smokey Point. It was the first home league win for the Fish in the club’s short history.
Andrew Escalante celebrated his 30th birthday weekend by drawing the Fish level at 1-1 in the 54th minute (see video). Then with full time looming Rio Alcorta took the club for a ride with a golazo in the 86th minute that proved to be the winner (see video). Federal Way had taken a 1-0 lead in the 41st minute on a corner kick headed home by Chris Williams (shown in highlight reel.)
Attacking midfielder Agustin Domingo was named Steelheads “Man of the Match” for his roaming coverage, offensive thrusts and attacking presence. Luke Brezak made his debut in goal for SnoCo FC, playing the entire first half.
Snohomish dominated the second half of play and had numerous chances to score more goals. Carlos Rodriguez sent a dipping shot from outside the box that hit the crossbar and bounced down in front of goal. Escalante sent a whizzing turfhugger just past the far post after a free kick. The match appeared destined to be Snohomish County’s 4th draw of the year until Alcorta’s late heroics.
The Steelheads are now 2-0-1 in WWPL play with 7 out of a possible 9 points earned. Overall the Fish are now 3-1-3 on the season. Federal Way are now 1-2-0 in league play.
Up next for Snohomish is a Sunday matinee match on May 26 at 3 PM at Lakewood High School versus WWPL opponent Lacey Pocket Gophers.
