Steelheads remain unbeaten in league after draw at Kirkland FC

Snohomish County FC Steelheads-Primary-800SMOKEY POINT, WA— The Snohomish County FC Steelheads took a brief 1-0 lead in the second half but had to settle for a 1-1 draw on June 8 against Kirkland FC at Bellevue Community College. The Fish have now played 5 Western Washington Premier League matches, winning 3 and drawing 2.

Kirkland controlled the play in the first half, but the best chance to score came to the Steelheads when Devin Shull was gifted a defensive error and the ball landed at his feet outside the penalty area of a wide open goal. Shull quickly shot the ball but it hit the left post and stayed out.

In the second half Snohomish began finding space along the right flank. It made the Fish dangerous and eventually led to the go-ahead goal. Blake Camilleri delivered a nice leading pass to Carlos Rodriguez who took a curling shot on goal. It was saved then spilled and Shull was there to quickly poke it home in the 58th minute. It was Devin’s second goal of the season and second in 2 matches.

Just over 2 minutes later the Goats got even when a scramble in the box saw a Kirkland player slide into the goal, pushing the ball along with him.

The Steelheads had the better chances late on to claim all 3 points but the clubs ended at 1-1 and added more drama to a tight table that sees the top six clubs separated by a single point from the clubs above and below them.
