SNOHOMISH, WA—The Snohomish County FC Steelheads beat the Lacey Pocket Gophers 2-0 on Sunday night August 22 at Snohomish Veterans Memorial Stadium in a Western Washington Premier League soccer match. Earlier in the day the Fish spent time representing the club at the 2021 Snohomish Block Party.
SnoCo FC got a goal in each half. Morgan West put the Fish up 1-0 in the first half. It was West’s fifth goal of the season. Tyler Sharp added a second in the second half. It was Sharp’s first goal for the Fish after dishing out two assists in earlier matches. Both goals against Lacey were assisted by new Steelheads player Karim Piottin. The defense held strong once again for Snohomish. Dorian Lair recorded his 5th shutout of the season in goal with his back line consistently denying the Gophers.

“It was a workman-like performance for us,” said Head Coach Dagi Kesim. “We are seeing some new faces and they are already contributing to the team. It was nice to win our first-ever match held in the city of Snohomish.”
History was made on the night as SnoCo FC hosted its first-ever league match at Snohomish High School. All previous WWPL home matches had been played at Dick Cardinal Stadium at Lakewood High School in Smokey Point. The match concluded a day which began at 10 AM on the streets of Historic Downtown Snohomish with the Steelheads sharing booth space with the Snohomish Sports Dome at the Snohomish Block Party.
“This was a chance for us to get our club’s name out there, and then play a match in Snohomish,” said General Manager Dorian Lair. “It was a blast seeing new faces of future fans, handing out swag and free tickets, and getting into this community a little bit more.”
The Steelheads improve to 7-3-1 (W-D-L) and 24 points in the WWPL table. The win means the Fish jump into second place in their battle with Nido Aguila Seattle to claim the number two spot for the season. Nido currently have 22 points. Both sides have three matches left to play. Wenatchee All-Stars FC clinched the WWPL Championship when they reached 34 points Sunday night.
Next up for Snohomish County FC is a trip over the mountains to play the Champions. The Steelheads will travel on Saturday August 28 for a 3 PM kick off against Wenatchee All-Stars FC at the Apple Bowl. Earlier this year Wenatchee delivered the Steelheads’ only loss ever in league play, 5-3 in Smokey Point.
