Steelheads, Silvers join Western Indoor Soccer League

WISL Logo - 600SMOKEY POINT, WA— Snohomish County Football Club are excited to announce that the club has joined the Western Indoor Soccer League (WISL) and will begin play in the upcoming seasons scheduled to kick off in November 2020 (men) and Spring 2021 (women.)

The Steelheads (men) and Silvers (women) will train and play their home WISL matches at the Snohomish Sports Dome in Snohomish, WA. SnoCo FC and the Dome recently announced an indoor soccer partnership. The Dome, located near downtown in the city of Snohomish, is under new management and is undergoing a facelift including improved spectator amenities and a new bar.

SnoCo FC co-founder and player Andrew Escalante will act as Coordinator of Indoor Soccer for the club. “I believe by adding this program, we are showing a lot of growth in just four years,” says Andrew. “Plus it shows how serious of a club we are.”

Escalante is a veteran of indoor soccer, having previously also started the Arlington Aviators, a club that played in the PASL (Premier Arena Soccer League) before the Arlington indoor soccer facility shut down. “I’ve played in the WISL/PASL for four different clubs, with the Steelheads going to be number five, over the last ten years. I’ve seen a lot of different styles, coaches and players. The biggest thing missing was a disciplined program with a true identity. I believe we will be clear with ours and that’s what will make us different.”

steelheads-logo-star-2021Snohomish County FC Technical Director of Soccer Dagi Kesim also sees the indoor teams as a chance to grow the club. “We are a very organized program. Our goal is to actually look like semi pro teams,” Kesim says. “That separates us from the rest. Indoor is an exciting opportunity for our players to compete beyond outdoor soccer. It will keep them in shape throughout the year.”

The arrival of the Steelheads into the WISL sets up a chance for a local rivalry to develop. The Snohomish Skyhawks have been playing indoor soccer for over a decade in what used to be called the Snohomish Soccer Dome.  The Skyhawks have been in the WISL since it started back in 2014. Last year ten Steelheads competed on the Skyhawks roster.

sports_dome_logoEven though they have not played a match since winning the Western Washington Premier League (WWPL) title in 2019, SnoCo FC are still making news as they continue to prepare for a return to the pitch even as the region navigates the Covid 19 outbreak. In late June SnoCo FC announced that they would be fielding a women’s outdoor team called the “Silvers” in 2021.

The WISL began a women’s league in the spring of 2020 that was suspended after just a couple of weeks due to the pandemic. The “Lady Skyhawks” represented Snohomish in the league. They plan to continue again in 2021 under the Snohomish County FC banner and using the name “Silvers” for the women’s indoor squad.
