SMOKEY POINT, WA— The Western Washington Premier League 2019 Championship trophy is on the way. Player awards and medals are being sorted. The presentation will be public and will come at a later date. For now though, the Snohomish County FC Steelheads are still buzzing from winning the league, and they are sticking with world football tradition along the way as they honor and celebrate their accomplishments.
Gold Star
The club asked for public and player input about what the color the Star over the crest should be. Black? Orange? Grey? The first two got plenty of support, but in the end the Steelheads listened to the guidance of some veteran players who clearly said tradition calls for the star to be gold. So the club revealed a Gold Star via social media on Friday.
The Gold Star is now above the official crest on SnoCoFC.com and will work its way into other areas during the off season. Embroidered Gold Stars will eventually we applied to the crests on the Steelheads’ Hex Grey and Primary Orange jerseys.
Champagne Showers
How the 2019 WWPL Championship played out there was not a way to celebrate after a match on the pitch. The Steelheads beat XF Redmond 1-0 on July 18 in Redmond and then had to wait it out until Sunday July 21 to see what would happen between Federal Way FC and Nido Aguila Seattle. When that match went final at 2-2 and the Fish knew they had won the league, players, coaches and fans were scattered about but connecting online. On Friday July 26 some players and coaches got together for a private celebration. Que the champagne showers for Head Coach Dagi Kesim.
