Steelheads swim through first summer of soccer

Snohomish County Football Club has finished their first ever adventure in soccer with the close of the summer of 2017. The Steelheads got many things accomplished, but in reality this is just the beginning, and there is much more to do to get the club where it can eventually be.

You can’t ever accomplish your dreams unless you jump right into the water and get to swimming. Over the course of a few months this year SnoCo FC did just that, establishing an online presence, taking a name, picking a crest, naming a head coach, holding open tryouts, training, traveling around Western Washington playing matches.

Talking Steelheads

Behind the scenes a group of people talked daily over the summer about Steelheads soccer. There were ideas about organization, finding teams to play, and check-ins to measure progress on and off of the pitch.

On the pitch Head Coach Dagi Kesim was able to find and teach a solid bunch of players that represented themselves, the club and the county well. There were stand-out plays, close  matches and plenty of improvement as the summer went on.

Going with the flow

For right now the players have disbanded with some of them already back playing in college. The front office is taking time to assess what comes next. GM Andrew Escalante has stepped down. The position remains unfilled.

There was some talk of the Steelheads fielding an indoor club in the Western Indoor Soccer League, but it looks as if Snohomish County will be represented by our historic local side — Snohomish Skyhawks — once again in the WISL. The Steelheads encourage players and fans to support the Skyhawks indoors.

Owners needed

We need an ownership group. Everything expands out from there. If we can find one, they will inherit a club already under construction. Much of the early ‘heavy lifting’ has been done this summer. Awareness of the club’s existence by local players is growing. The crest, name and colors continue to get a favorable response.

We know that our county has the talent to compete statewide. We know that the Steelheads can serve as part of advanced player development. We know we can be a source of pride for Snohomish.

What’s next? Stay tuned. The journey upstream has just begun!
