Steelheads to field outdoor women’s team in Cascadia Premier League

SNOHOMISH, WA—The Snohomish County FC Steelheads will enter an outdoor women’s team in the Cascadia Premier League starting in 2022, the club and league revealed this week. The news comes just days after the indoor Steelheads Women held open tryouts ahead of their Northwest Premier League Indoor season.

It’s a historic first for Snohomish as elite-level adult women’s soccer will be available BOTH indoor and outdoor under the same club flag.

“The number of players at indoor open tryouts (over 40) gave us an indication that this year was the time for our women’s outdoor team to find a league,” says SnoCo FC General Manager Dorian Lair. “We played a couple of friendlies last year. Now that the CPL is debuting a women’s division, we really wanted to step up and join the other clubs in its first year.”

The CPL Women’s Division has announced 8 clubs: Kirkland FC, Nido Aguila Seattle, Washington Premier (Tacoma), OVF Alliance (Albany, Oregon), Blackhills FC (Olympia), Cultures United (Burien), Steel United (Puyallup) and Snohomish County FC.

“We are excited to continue the new momentum of women’s indoor into the outdoor Steelheads,” says SnoCo FC Technical Director of Soccer Dagi Kesim. “Now Snohomish Steelheads are providing elite adult soccer to our county over four distinct areas. Outdoor and Indoor for both Men and Women, and in highly competitive regional leagues. It’s a great way to celebrate our 5th Anniversary.”

The timeline for the CPL Steelheads Women is being decided upon now with dates coming in the near future. The club will search for a coaching staff, announce open tryouts, and league play will likely begin in May.
