SNOHOMISH COUNTY, WA—Snohomish County Football Club is excited to announce that Tim Colvin is joining the premier adult soccer club as the Head Coach of the Silvers, the new elite women’s team being created under the SnoCo FC banner. Colvin is a Snohomish County native with decades of experience as a player, coach, program developer and guide to player achievement. Soccer is a passion for the family as Tim’s father John was a longtime official and was an integral part of the beginnings of Snohomish County Youth Soccer. Together the pair have contributed over 100 years to the sport.
Colvin believes in Snohomish soccer
“I have always believed in the talent and resources of Snohomish County; I call it my lifetime home,” new SnoCo FC Silvers Head Coach Tim Colvin exclaims. “I am excited and honored to be a part of this new program and to put a personal mark on what no doubt can be a successful venture; with the help and assistance of the local community it will happen. I am all about program development, development of players on and off the field. Discipline and hard work are the operational foundations I work from. Soccer is more than a game and provides so many valuable lessons for life beyond the game.”
Kesim and Colvin to work in tandem
SnoCo FC Technical Director of Soccer Dagi Kesim is thrilled to have the 54 year-old Colvin join the club. “Tim is one of the best women’s soccer coaches in the area,” Kesim says. “He has seen success with U19 age players in top divisions as well as at a 4-year university and other colleges.” Kesim, Head Coach of the defending WWPL Champion SnoCo FC Men, will coordinate with Colvin. Both will train and assist for the Steelheads (Men) and the Silvers, working in tandem to build one from scratch and raise the level of both. They will be listed as assistant coaches for their partner teams. “I love working with him as he is an open minded coach who will also attract the best help (trainers, coaches) to make his team stronger. I have worked with him as his skills, technical, and set play trainer for over 10 years. He knows what his teams need and that makes my job easier. I admire his team management.”
Silvers on the scene
The SnoCo FC Silvers were announced as a new team back in June of 2020. The club went public at that time with its intention to create a competitive side for premier female soccer players in the county. The Silvers plan to play a season of exhibition matches before joining a regional league in 2022. Finding a head coach is just one of the items on the Silvers “to-do” list. Much more is ahead in early 2021, including recruiting a coaching staff, setting open tryouts, building infrastructure, welcoming business sponsors, designing team uniforms, and more. Colvin’s credentials
Tim Colvin has plenty of experience with launching new soccer programs and bringing energy to existing ones. Beyond his college playing days at Whitworth (Spokane) and Seattle Pacific, he has remained in the game and started the soccer program at Seattle Academy of Arts and Sciences High School. He revived the Fort Casey Soccer Camps with Whidbey Soccer Academy. Among his numerous coaching credentials are stints at Lake Washington High School, Inglemoor High School, Seattle Academy, Lynnwood High School, and Liberty Bell High School. He took over and lifted the Everett Trojans soccer program in the NWAC and led the Trinity (Everett) College Eagles women to the national finals in the NCCAA.
Colvin as coach and developer
Reviewing Tim’s soccer adventures is worth the time. Colvin concentrates first on his coaching journey. “Coaching for me began in 1986 as an assistant at Lake Washington High School and then moving on to be an assistant coach for Inglemoor High School while in college. After college graduation I accepted a job as a teacher and coach for the up and coming newer private school in the area Seattle Academy (SAAS), who now is one of the strongest private school programs around.” Colvin coached and developed the SAAS girl’s soccer program from 1989-95 and then left to enter into a family business in Seattle. In the early 2000’s he returned again to act as an assistant coach for Seattle Academy for a short time.
In 2004 Tim took over Lynnwood High School’s boys program where in three years’ time they became winners again, advancing to the tournament for the first time in many many years. “At this same time, I accepted a position as an assistant coach at Everett Community College for Men’s Soccer,” Colvin adds, “eventually taking over as Head Coach of the Trojans in 2007, taking the team from many years of last place finishes to nearly a league title, the playoffs and earning NWAAC North Region Coach of the Year honors.” After leaving EVCC Colvin and his family moved to the Mazama-Winthrop area where he assumed coaching responsibilities for both girls and boys’ programs at Liberty Bell High School, eventually becoming head coach for the boy’s program and earning Coach of the Year honors for both in the two years there.
National success
Colvin was appealing to the Silvers for many reasons, including his time with the Eagles of TLC. Tim recalls jumping in to build a new program at the collegiate level. “In 2013 I was presented with an opportunity to assume the role of head coach at Trinity Lutheran College in Everett. I was charged with growing the program and instilling success and advancement. In my three years there we grew the program from minimal success and a roster of only 11 to nearly 30 players recruited largely from Snohomish County area high schools. The Eagles women made an appearance in the NCCAA National Tournament for the first time in program history.” Colvin earned NCCAA Regional Coach of the Year for that run. “Unfortunately, success was fleeting as the college closed due to financial reasons and did not continue,” Tim recalls. “What was evident though is that you could indeed create a very solid and successful program purely on localized talent.”
Building the Silvers with Gala FC
The Snohomish County FC Steelheads were founded back in 2017 with a belief that local premier male players could compete regionally. The Steelheads played two seasons of friendlies before joining the Western Washington Premier League in 2019. The Silvers are starting the same way. It’s a grass-roots effort with local players in mind, where local talent and love for soccer will take these new “Fish” as far as they can go. Gala FC youth club will align programs with the Silvers the same way they have done with the Steelheads. The Mill Creek-based club will form a U19 women’s “Pro Focus Academy” team that will directly feed players to the Silvers. Details of this relationship will be revealed in the coming months.
