SMOKEY POINT, WA—The Snohomish County FC Steelheads completed an unbeaten Western Washington Premier League season on Thursday night July 18 with a 1-0 win over Crossfire Redmond at Redmond High School.
The win raised the club’s record to 7-3-0 in the WWPL (Win-Draw-Loss) and 8-5-1 overall. The 24 standings points lifts the Fish into first place in the table. Crossfire were dealt their first loss of the season and finish 7-2-1 on 23 points.

On Sunday Nido Aguila Seattle (6-3-0, 21 points) will try to tie it up at the top as they travel to Federal Way FC. League tiebreakers include goal differential. Should Nido win they would take the title on that tiebreaker as their differential is currently +28 to the SnoCo FC’s +25. If Nido draws or loses the title would come north. Snohomish and Nido drew 1-1 earlier in the season at Smokey Point.
The Steelheads and Crossfire battled to a 0-0 halftime stand off. Snohomish forward Randy Galvan had a chance to put the Steelheads up in the 20th minute but his one-on-one with the goalkeeper was sent just wide to the right.
The second half was barely underway when the Steelheads threatened again with their long throw in specialist Cade Cooke. In the 48th minute he sent another one zipping into the Crossfire box. It first met Devin Shull. Shull’s redirect fell to Rio Alcorta, who found the back of the net to make it 1-0 Snohomish.
It was Rio’s 7th goal of the year, tops on the team. Devin finished with 4 assists, Cade with 3.
The Steelheads had more chances the rest of the way as the rain fell hard. They hit the post once and the crossbar another time. But they saw it out and goalkeeper Dorian Lair and his leading defender John Troka coordinated the back for another shut out. Snohomish surrendered just 6 goals over the entire league season (10 matches) for a GAA of .60.
