SMOKEY POINT, WA— In an online vote held in late August the 2019 Steelheads Season Supporters Choice picks for Most Valuable Player (MVP) and Rookie of the Year were decided.
Midfielder Rio Alcorta (Inglemoor HS, PLU) was voted MVP for his dynamite season of 8 goals (4 of them match winners), overall play in the midfield and team leadership. Rio had previously been acknowledged by Steelheads coaches as Top Midfielder, Best Goal, and Most Inspirational (Honorable Mention.)
Defender Cade Cooke (Kamiak HS, Everett CC) was voted Rookie of the Year for his tremendous debut season of teamwork, defense, calm under pressure, long throw ins, and his 2 goals and 3 assists on the attack. He was previously honored by the coaches as Newcomer of the Year.
Rio and Cade were iron men for the Steelheads. Both guys played every minute of every match (14 x 90=1,260) in the 2019 WWPL Championship season.
