SMOKEY POINT, WA— It didn’t take long for social media posts of the 2019 Snohomish County FC kit designs to create some buzz for the Steelheads as the club continues to prepare for its debut season in the Western Washington Premier League.
The Icarus FC brand custom kit images have been shared on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. The Steelheads initially asking fans for input, and then posting 3D renderings of the two choices that seem like favorites.
Orange Primary
“We know an all-orange kit is going to be our primary and traditional look,” says Steelheads General Manager David Falk. “The question is, can we give that look some depth and some meaningful touches while letting the orange remain center stage.” The club and Icarus FC eventually decided on a subtle hexagonal pattern and a partial crest image on front lower right of the shirt. The “Oso 43” image designed by SnoCo FC logo creator Mark Patrick Lavis appears on the neck in back.
No Scaling Back
There is nothing “subtle” about what the club are calling the “Hex Grey” kit. Icarus FC took a run at creating something that called upon the hexagonal shapes in the club’s fish logo while making them similar in color to actual fish scales. The response to the design has been tremendous from both fans and players. “I instantly loved the Hex Grey,” says Falk. I wasn’t sure how people would respond, so the club showed it to some players privately and then also posted it online, asking for input. There were a couple of doubters, but overall the design seems to be a hit.” The Hex Grey would be an alternate strip used in friendlies or away when the Orange Primary doesn’t provide enough contrast to opponent colors.
A Sponsor for the Shirt
The Steelheads are entertaining discussions with businesses who might want to appear on the shirts as a Premier Sponsor. Matt Tabor can be contacted at Rallymatttabor@gmail.com for more information. “Having these designs to show prospective partners should really help,” says Tabor, who is the Steelheads Business Relations & Partnerships Director. “They look great and I think any business would want to be on those shirts.”
