Missed Chances & Missed Points. Fish Lose 4-7 in Everett

Everett, WA

The Steelheads on the road for a second straight match, miss chances against Everett City FC, leading to a 4-7 loss in week 6 of the WISL regular season.

It was the first meeting between the two sides with a packed Everett Arena. President Dorian Lair comments that the fan attendance was “wonderful for the community.” “As long as the Steelheads play with class and give local home and away fans a good show, the fans will continue to grow and support the club.”

The Steelheads started out strong with Dorian Lair scoring the first goal of the match, and his career in the WISL, in the first quarter. When asked how he scored, Lair said, “was a pretty standard goal. Got the ball from Devin Shull on my weak foot while posted up on a size-mismatch on an Everett defender, then turned and toe-poked the ball through the keeper’s legs.”

The second quarter brought Everett City back into the game. They capitalized on their chances and by half-time, had tied the game up 2-2.

It wasn’t long before Michael Sitzman was able to find Elliot Misic for the Steelheads’ second goal. Putting them up 2-0 by the end of the first quarter.

The Steelheads kept up their performance going into the third quarter. Elliot Misic found Daniel Amador during an offensive power play making the score 3-2. Not long after though, Everett was able to tie the game again while also on an offensive power play. With three minutes left to go in the third, Everett scored their fourth goal making the score 4-3 headed into the fourth quarter.

The final quarter proved to be the most physically draining for the Steelheads. “We were a little gassed in the fourth, but we had a game plan from the beginning.” said assistant coach and forward Andrew Escalante

Everett City FC was able to score three more goals during the quarter putting them up 7-3. However the Steelheads never gave up, and with two minutes left in the game, Lair was able to head the fourth and final goal of the match, his second career WISL goal.

“My second goal was quite the series… I was able to poach the goal off of a scramble from a failed clearance by Everett, and simply just head the ball in after a few deflections from players,” said Lair.

The match would end with the Steelheads falling 4-7, but despite the match results the Men’s Indoor Team has been making waves in their program this season. When asked about the improvements, Andrew Escalante said they do their best to keep a healthy, competitive, and maintaining professional environments as well as making sure they utilize their ‘round table of coaches’ to put out their most competitive roster every match.
