Snohomish County, WA
After a 28-day break from league games, The Steelheads found themselves back in action against Seattle Umoja FC. The last time these two clubs met, Umoja scored with minutes left in the game to tie 3-3 and secure their only point of the season. This time around The Steelheads made sure they weren’t giving away any points with a dominant 5-1 performance
We went back to our original system and the boys did well. There were some great combination plays and also some great set plays. I wish we had the shutout but I will take the win.Head Coach Dagi Kesim
Back To Orginal Ways
The Steelheads had a change in tactics for this game, leading to a solid start to the first half. The 1st goal came in the 20th minute. Cesar Zavalza was subbed on to play right wingback and a minute later Zavalza took a cross down full stride with his chest, playing a driven cross to Jeremey Maldonado to score a simple touch. 1-0 Steelheads, 5 minutes later the Fish would strike again, this time it would be the opposite wingback Garret Robinson who would play Jacen Stein in for his first goal of the night. The half would fish 2-0 to the Steelheads.
Hat Trick Half
The 2nd half saw the Steelheads score 3 more goals but also concede 1 as well. Karim Piottin would score next off a corner-kick set play, assisted by Lucas Hakamada. Jacen Stein would complete his hattrick and The Steelheads would finish the match 5-1.
Was frustrating to concede a goal after such a dominiate performance. Tactically in the back, we have to close gaps and clear the ball a bit better in our own defending third, especially against top attacking teams such as Ballard FC, Wenatchee and Lacey. We know our weaknesses and just have to do the work to fix the little things. Was great to see our attack is still fully capable!Goalkeeper & President Dorian Lair
Top 3 Potential
The Fish sit in 4th place, 1 point behind Nido with 3 games left in the season. Unfortunately, The Steelheads can’t win the league but can still finish in 2nd place by winning all 3 games and Lacey dropping points this weekend against the Steelheads and against Kirkland FC a week later.
Up next for the Fish:
This Friday, July 15th, at 7 pm The Steelheads travel south to face powerhouse Ballard FC (friendly) at Interbay Stadium in Seattle. Ballard FC is ranked 20th in the nation for USL-2 teams and has an impressive roster of D1, D2 college players, and International players. A quick turnaround will see the Fish back in league action on July 17th when they host Lacey Light FC at Dick Cardinal Stadium at 7 pm.
From around the league:
No other league games happened this weekend but our friends in Central Washington Wenatchee All-Stars traveled to Reno and faced Battleborn FC in the NISA Cup and won 3-1. They will now play in the finals on July 23rd against Professional side Bay Cities FC.
Good luck and Rep our league proudly!
