The Steelheads are coming into tonight’s NWPLi Championship with a chip on their shoulder — and for good reason. With only 2 losses in almost 2 years, they snatched the rights to host the title game, for a second year in a row; was just the burst of motivation they needed. The Steelheads are looking to make history with back-to-back titles, that will ultimately bring them a birth into The United States Open Cup for Arena Soccer, A cup-style tournament hosted in Louisville, KY.
The Steelheads had quite the past few weeks, with the team earning hosting rights for tonight’s NWPLi Championship by winning last week against Tacoma, winning 6-4, bouncing back from their first loss against of the season to Tacoma 2-7 in the week prior.
Last week, the Steelheads jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the first half and held off Tacoma’s efforts to get within one goal in the fourth quarter, ultimately fighting back with a Hat-Trick performance by Payton Chick. Their win pushed them one game ahead of their Tacoma, earning them hosting rights for tonight’s Championship game. It promises to be an exciting showdown between these two teams as they clash for the title.
The Steelheads have had an impressive run to earn back-to-back title shots. After starting the season off strong this year, making it 12 games without a loss, the team hit some mid-season challenges that halted their streak and nearly dethroned them from their first title in their 2nd season of the NWPLi. Talented players on the team were able to bring about changes to help push through these challenges and bring about yet another title chance. Making it two finals appearances in a row gives evidence that the Steelheads are a dominant force in the Northwest Premier League — one to reckon with.
