SMOKEY POINT, WA—The Snohomish County FC Steelheads saw their 2-year 13-match Western Washington Premier League unbeaten streak (8-0-5) end at 13 on sunny Mother’s Day at Dick Cardinal Stadium on May 9th. Wenatchee All-Stars FC scored a 5-3 win over the Steelheads.
In the second match of the day, Gala FC earned their first WWPL 2 win 2-0 over ISC Gunners.
Wenatchee Strikes First
For the third straight home match SnoCo FC gave up the first goal. Eleazar Galván put the visitors up 1-0 before the 10-minute mark. The Fish answered back about half an hour later when Rio Alcorta sprung Kojo Dadzie on a breakaway pass which the new forward from Brown University calmly slotted home on the trot to make it 1-1.
Wenatchee scored two quick goals just after halftime. Omar Mendoza made it 2-1 and then a second goal of the match from Eleazar Galván made it 3-1. The Steelheads were reeling, but not done battling. Andrew Escalante brought the club back on his shoulders with a nifty step-around goal to make it 3-2 on an assist from Kojo. Just seconds later Escalante was back in the All-Stars penalty box and drew a penalty kick call that gave Snohomish a chance to draw level. Carlos Rodriguez converted the try and suddenly the match had exploded into a 3-3 tie.
Wenatchee pulled away late on a lovely header into the corner from Joel Villa that made it 4-3. That match winner was followed near the end by an insurance goal from Alex Espinoza.
Wenatchee improves to 3-0-1 on the season and are in second place with 10 points. SnoCo FC falls to 1-2-1 with 5 points, fifth in the eight team WWPL.

The Streak
The Steelheads made their debut in the WWPL on April 27, 2019 with a 1-0 win at Tacoma Narrows FC. The Fish went 7-0-3 in 2019, winning the league championship. The 2020 season was cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. In 2021 Snohomish opened the season with a 4-1 win at Grays Harbor. The Fish followed with two home draws to extend their unbeaten streak to 13 before the Mother’s Day loss at home to Wenatchee.

In an interesting coincidence of scheduling, Snohomish hosts Nido Aguila Club America Seattle on Sunday May 16. Nido just tied the league unbeaten record at 15 when they drew 0-0 with Kirkland FC on Mother’s Day. The Fish and Eagles kick off at 3 PM at Dick Cardinal Stadium.
