“These ladies bring a lot of types of talent, and we are still jelling as a complete team. The goals we scored showed that. Steel United didn’t give up and made it interesting late in the second half. Myself and Dagi will continue to improve no matter the result we earn on a game day.”

First Half Bounce

It was a bouncy first half for both teams. Nevertheless, a bounce helped create the first goal for The Lady Fish. Amber Elliano helped create that chance from a throw-in into the Steel United 18-yard box where Sarah Dunbar flicked on the ball to a waiting Kiana Jacobson challenging and touching it passed the keeper with about 15 minutes left in the first half to take the lead 1-0 going into halftime.

New Faces Help Key Players In Second Half

The second half sees a couple of new faces combine with some key players for the Lady Fish. Rachel Dowdell sees her first appearance for the Steelheads. Also, Kat Wolf will see the first minutes of her Steelheads career at forward.

11-minutes into the second half Amber Elliano is on the ball for another long corner-kick-like throw-in. Newcomer Kat Wolfe sees an opportunity to have a shot on goal from a volley and is able to clear the keeper for a goal. Steelheads lead 2-0 at the 56th minute.

The pace is picking up for Steel United and has seen themselves with a few chances since the start of the second half. With 30 minutes left in the second half, Estera Livente comes on into the midfield. A key player for the Steelheads and see herself with the third and final goal for the women’s team. Getting possession around 40-yards out, Livente sees Jacobson further up the pitch with no Steel United defenders marking. A lined through ball finds its way to Jacobson and is able to take a single touch and places it into the back of the net. The Steelheads find themselves at 3-0 at the 60th minute.

5-minutes after the Steelhead’s third goal, the referee gives a foul for Steel United about 35-yards out. A well-placed ball that hits off the crossbar and into the net gets Steel United their first goal of the game.

With 8 minutes left in the game, Steel United has another opportunity for a free-kick. Another well-placed shot finds the crossbar for a second time. The ball finds itself bouncing around the 6-yard box where a Steel United player is able to tap the ball into the back of the net. 3-2 Steelheads with a 1-goal lead.

The game would end there with the Lady Fish capturing a 3-2 victory and adding another 3 critical points and finding themselves within top contention for a top-two spot in the Cascadia Premier League table.

“We started off slow. We definitely picked it up second half and played very aggressive. We scored some beautiful goals.”
