Wenatchee, WA – The Snohomish County Steelheads
A Hard fought, and VERY physical match against the All-Stars in Wenatchee that finished in a 1-2 defeat of the Steelheads. The match saw 12 yellow cards and two red cards between both teams. It was the second week in a row the guys were disappointed they weren’t able to finish the critical chances Wenatchee gave up.
Head coach Dagi Kesim quote:
“At this level if you are getting chances inside the 6-yard box and you are missing most of them…the other team will come up with a win. Soccer is a cruel game, It was a great battle. The best defense against the best offense in the league. We will work on finishing.”
1st half recap:
Wenatchee started the game with an early goal coming in the 10th minute. They were awarded a free-kick, after a slide tackle right outside the 18-yard box. The steelheads were able to answer back six minutes later after Pono Halemano played a dangerous ball into the box where Glenn Paden headed past the Wenatchee Keeper. The game would remain 1-1 for the rest of the 1st half.
2nd half recap:
During the 2nd half, the Steelheads were able to press Wenatchee back to win a few corner kicks, but unfortunately, the Fish were unable to finish their chances. For the remaining 30 mins of the game, the referee issued two red cards and a handful of Yellow cards. 1st Wenatchee was issued a red card after the Steelheads Forward, Cristiano Whitaker was continuously on the receiving end of some questionable challenges. For 10 mins Wenatchee played a man down and was able to get the winning goal off a shot from 18 yards out that the Steelheads’ defense was unable to step in front of. With about 20 minutes left in the game, the Steelheads were issued a red card after Cristiano Whitaker and a Wenatchee player were involved in a scuffle on the sideline. Whitaker received a second yellow and was sent off. For the last 15 minutes, the Steelheads finished the game with two defenders as they put more pressure on the Wenatchee back-line.
The Season is Young
These two heavyweight clubs will not meet for the remainder of the season, but both teams have 7 games remaining with zero room for errors. Wenatchee extends its unbeaten run to 17 league games. Next up the Steelheads travel to Seattle to play the newly promoted side Seattle Umoja FC on May 21st at 7 pm at Seghalie Middle School.
