Lady Fish Dominate Oly-pen in Season Home Opener 9-1

The Lady Steelheads, the defending Northwest Premier League Indoor champions, started off their 2023 season with a bang as they defeated the Oly-Pen Force 9-1 on Saturday night at the Snohomish Sports Dome.

Maggie Tonkin set the tone for the game early on, scoring the first goal of the match with 5:21 left in the first quarter. M’ily Morton soon followed suit, scoring her first goal of the game late in the first quarter to take a 2-0 lead after the first 15 minutes. The Steelheads continued to dominate in the second quarter as Kayla Soderstrom picked up her first goal early in the quarter, and the Steelheads added one more to go up 4-0, with Anne Ferguson adding a goal.

Despite the Steelheads’ commanding lead, the Force managed to get on the board with Jules Bushaw’s goal with 4:41 left in the half. However, the Steelheads were not done yet, as Morton closed out the half with her second goal, ending the first half with Snohomish County up 5-1.

The third quarter saw Olivia Larson score 8 minutes into the quarter, and Anna Roslender adding another shortly after.

The Steelheads continued to dominate in the second half, keeping a clean sheet with Hanne Braun in goal, allowing the fish to score four more times. Soderstrom added her second goal of the game, with Mariah Roggow wrapping up the scoring for the Steelheads, running away with the 9-1 victory. The Steelheads’ victory is a promising start to their 2023 season, and they will look to continue their winning ways in their next game.
