SMOKEY POINT, WA— The Snohomish County FC Steelheads encourage all graduating men’s soccer high school seniors to keep kicking even though their final seasons have been cancelled.
The Covid 19 pandemic has claimed the 2020 men’s high school soccer season, leaving scores of guys from around Snohomish County with an ‘unfinished’ feeling as they graduate high school without playing another match in their school colors. But soccer isn’t over for these guys. Some are already planning for college soccer. Either way, the Steelheads are a club built to give opportunities for players to keep playing and raise their game.
2020 seniors at local high schools are encouraged to follow the Steelheads on our various social media pages @snocofc to keep updated about future open tryouts and high-level playing opportunities.
Senior Seasons Scrapped
In Marysville, the Tomahawks of MPHS were covered in this article from the North County Outlook back in March. “We have to value the moment and we never know when we’re going to be able to live this moment again as seniors. We all have passion and we live this sport. It’s unfortunate to have this happen to the season, but as a team we need to do our best and be ready,” said Tomahawks’ team captain Edgar Martinez in the article.
In Lynnwood, the 12 seniors at LHS are struggling with the developments.“The thing that I miss the most about the season cancellation is going and playing with the team and getting to know the new players and being able to teach the new freshmen who joined,” Miguel Ahumada said. Especially disappointing was the fact the team had 12 seniors “and we all played varsity since our freshman and sophomore year,” he added.

The Game Goes On
“The Steelheads salute all of the 2020 soccer graduates,” says club General Manager David Falk. “We feel your frustration and sadness at not having a final season with each other.” The Steelheads are also on hold as they wonder if they will be able to take the pitch again in 2020 to defend their 2019 Western Washington Premier League Championship.
“We want to compete and we will, when it is the right time to do so,” says Falk. “We will also be keeping our Class of 2020 Snohomish County area high school players in mind. When the time is right we will have a free invitational tryout for that class to see if we can provide further playing opportunities to the best of the best.”
